The ethnic makeup of the band is diverse, with musicians of English, Scottish, Irish, Yemeni and Jamaican parentage. From the band's 1978 inception through early 2008, UB40's line-up was constant:

UB40 have confirmed lead Artist Ali Campbell is leaving the group after almost 30 years and 70 million record sales.Campbell, who sang on chart-toppers including ‘Red, Red Wine’, is said to be leaving to focus on solo projects.
